I took a quick tour and run about on whogets.com today. If you are not familiar with them, I think you will be soon. It appears to be a prime candidate for viral marketing 101, because if you want to win — you will surely try to get all your friends to sign up and vote for you. I envision mass groups of “friends” trying to pile up the prizes just because they can, and all within the rules.
The short description of WhoGetsTM is that someone is always winning cool products, and the person who wins is decided by other users on the site. Registered users vote on who wins using whatever criteria they want. Pick a friend. Choose the hot chick. Get together with friends to boost along the person you think should not win — just for the heck of it! You start by picking the prize you want and entering the contest semi-final pool. WhoGetsTM randomly selects the seven finalists for each prize, then the semi-finalists put together a sob story about why they should win. Vote for your favorite, and if they get the most votes… they win.
WhoGetsTM makes sure to tell everyone that it is free to register, that you have nothing to buy, and that you won’t get annoying e-mails (isn’t that refreshing!). I found it a worthwhile site to visit and register — now if I can get you to vote for me to win I’ll be in heaven.
